At the edge of a large open plain, peeking from behind a boulder, sat three children. This field was not filled with sunshine or tall grain waving in a late summer's cool breeze. It was open grassland with gently rolling hills, where no plant grew taller than the height of a man's knee. It was vast, remote, without another human in sight. The blades of grass were not waving gently either, and the skies were not blue and peaceful. Dark clouds loomed on the horizon. A storm was brewing, only moments away from taking over the plain. The grasses whipped from side to side, swirling in the confused winds. There was no shelter to be had besides the scant protection of a huge boulder. These plains were infamous on the continent for their savage storms and wild winds.
"I'm not too sure about this," said the youngster named Pelky.
"Stick with the plan," said Maigro. She was now nearly 14 years old. In years past, many had mistaken her for a boy, but no longer. Although still thin and wiry, the beginnings of what was sure to be a beautiful woman were starting to make their appearance.
