Rimmy Newgreer stood behind his bar, wiping down a very tarnished goblet he had just rinsed in his washtub. The liquid sloshing about in the tub was not the cleanest the Near Continent had to offer. It had the consistency of milk, and the color of a sickly gray stew. But Rimmy couldn't have cared less about the cleanliness of the goblets and mugs in his little inn, The Heady Barrel, for his customers were not ones he particularly cared to have.
He stared out at the 18 tables scattered around the large common area, and his eyes rested upon an assortment of the vilest creatures the Jaded Mountains had to offer. Oh, for years he had dealt with the Jaded Thieves, who used to be the lowest form of life on the Near Continent, but long ago they had been pushed out of the Seeker and his army. Now what remained were the "peacekeepers," as they liked to call themselves, a collection of castoffs from the Seeker's army. They traveled from Dellington to Del Ranis, keeping a watchful eye on the citizenry. Their job, as for every member of the army, was to make sure that those who could not be controlled willingly would be controlled unwillingly.
